American History Lesson Plans
Week of 5/4: Lesson Description:
This week we are working on Life at the Turn of the 20th Century and Urbanization and Scientific Development.

In this unit, we address life at the turn of the 20th century and discuss how urbanization influences reforms. We take a look at scientific and technological developments and how both impacted life at the turn of the 20th century. How to access the lesson plans:
The links below are all of my lesson plans that we have gone over throughout this school year starting with the most current lesson plan to the oldest. These lesson plans explain everything that we do within the classroom daily as far as the chapter being covered, to the vocabulary that is discussed, the Objectives to be mastered, the Course Level Expectations; to the day by day agendas.
For parents who may have children who are out for an extended period of time and want to know what we did for the day in detail, click on the links below that say Download File on the week that your child missed. When the file opens, go to the column labeled Differentiated Instruction/Cross Content Integration which is the right column. Scroll down until you see the titles Day 1; Day 2; Day 3. Under each of those days are a complete breakdown of what we are doing on that day within the classroom.

- America the Story of US: Cities Guided Viewing Assignment: Carnegie steel becomes the backbone for the rise of modern cities; skyscrapers and the Statue of Liberty symbolize the American dream for millions of immigrants. While watching the History Channel Video “American The Story of Us” Answer the Guided Viewing Analysis Questions.
- An Immigrant's Experience Ellis Island Poem: (If you need an extra week, especially for those who just received their technology!) In order to gain a better understanding of the difficulties faced by newcomers to a foreign culture, you are going to develop a poem based on an imagined immigrant experience. Imagine what it would be like to be an immigrant. Describe your feelings and observations and the challenges of being a newcomer. You may describe such experiences as: difficulties of the journey to the U.S. (traveling to the U.S. and seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time); going through the inspections (i.e. Ellis Island or Angel Island); experiences once admitted to the country (challenges that were faced w/nativism); immigration restrictions; and life in the cities as an immigrant.
- You must include this in your poem: (1) Imagery-the use of vivid or figurative language to represent objects, actions or ideas and (2) Mood-the feeling or atmosphere that an author creates in a story or poem. Click here for the project sheet. You will need to complete the "An Immigrant's Experience Poem Draft" assignment first (click here). If you would like to see some examples of former students click here. (Poem Project=100 pts.)
- All assignments are due by Sunday at 11:59 pm. Submit work through Teams by sending a digital copy of typed out work or by taking a picture of finished work .
