AP World History Testing Information


History—World The AP World History Exam is 3 hours and 5 minutes long and covers a full-year introductory college course. The exam contains:

·         Fifty-five minutes of multiple-choice questions (there will be 70 multiple choice questions)
·         A 10-minute reading period for the Document Based Questions (DBQ)
·         A 40-minute DBQ (1 Question)
·         A 40-minute question dealing with continuity and change over time (1 Question)
·         A 40-minute comparative question focusing on broad issues in world history (1 Question)

Section I consists of 70 multiple-choice questions designed to measure the student's knowledge of world history from Period 1 to the present. This section follows the percentages listed below; questions will draw from individual or multiple periods:  

·         Technological and Environmental Transformations:  to c. 600.B.C.E.                                           5%
·         Organization and Reorganization of Human Societies: c. 600.B.C.E. to c. 600 C.E.                 15%
·         Regional and Transregional Interactions: c. 600 C.E. to c.1450                                                      20%
·         Global Interactions: c. 1450 to c. 1750                                                                                                       20%
·         Industrialization and Global Integration: c. 1750 to c. 1900                                                             20%
·         Accelerating Global Change and Realignments:  c. 1900 to Present                                                20%


The exam covers change and continuity across world history periods; interaction between humans and the environment; development and interaction of cultures; state-building, expansion, and conflict; creation, expansion, and interaction of economic systems; and development and transformation of social structures. The chronological frame of the course is the period from approximately 8000 BCE to the present.
